If you’re a fan of Cricut like me, you probably already know how amazing it is to create designs and crafts with this versatile cutting machine. And when you’re working with images of people, color can be really important! Some of my images looked very different depending on the materials I used. So it’s a good idea to do a test transfer, and use some simple photo editing steps to adjust the file if needed. Can I print in color or black and white?
I'm using an Autopress, but you can also use an EasyPress with a pressing mat. If you're using different materials or tools, consult the Cricut Heat Guide to check your settings. Select both the contoured frame and photo and then click “Slice” at the bottom.
Print and cut with Cricut: lining up images
Print then Cut is a Cricut feature where you print an image on your home printer and then your Cricut will cut around the edge. Sometimes, resizing a design is difficult, so there is a new “Auto-Resize Image” option! While JPG, PNG, and SVG are the primary file formats recommended for print and cut, Cricut Design Space also supports other image file formats such as BMP and GIF.
How Do I Make an Image Print then Cut?

The reason you may not see the white border of your image on the preview mat is that Cricut Design Space assumes you’re printing on a white paper. Make sure "Add a Bleed" (extra design area to help with precise cutting) and "Use System Dialog" are green. The print screen for your printer will appear, but it might be hidden behind Design Space. Minimize your Cricut window to see the print settings window.
First, open up the design you want to print in Design Space. Then, click on the “Make It” button in the top right-hand corner. Click on the “Portrait” or “Landscape” button in the top middle of the screen to choose how you want your design to be oriented on the page.
Don’t use glossy or holographic material
Some svg sellers also include designs in png, jpg and dxf file formats in their packages. Place your printed sublimation sheet on your blue LightGrip machine mat like it is on the screen prompt. Lay a clean piece of printer paper over the top and use a brayer to adhere it well.

Cricut Image Library has thousands of images that have already been converted to be ready to use with the Print Then Cut feature. You can print and cut any image that you like so long as it fits on the canvas in Design Space. And you don’t need to limit yourself to just using images, you can also use shapes, text and even patterns. You can, of course, create your own images using the best software for Cricut. In the Make Screen, you’ll connect to your Cricut and then you’ll need to send your image to your printer.
Keeping Layers when Converting an Image using the Operation / Linetype Menu
In the Print dialogue box, choose your Epson printer from the list of available printers. Then, select the paper size, orientation, and other print settings you want to use. When the cut is done, unload the mat, remove the project, and with a paper trimmer, cut the black frame so you have a nice-looking sticker sheet.

For my sheet, it was “12” on the top and “I” on the bottom. You’ll then select your machine and your Cricut will test cut the middle square of that calibration sheet. To use Print then Cut, you’ll need the Desktop or iOS app version of Cricut Design Space. The Andriod app doesn’t support Cricut Print then Cut at this time.
Moving the shirt or transfer sheet when they’re still very warm can jostle the ink, creating a ghostly, smudged look. Both methods take a few extra steps with a Cricut cutting machine (and the accessories listed below) but are a great way to get options! You may need to click Browse All Materials and search “printable” to find it. When you click “Apply,” Design Space will add the offset to your project. You probably don’t want a black offset, so change to white or whatever color you’d like. Once you have changed the colors and added any text you like, select all of the layers and click Flatten.
You’ll see that all of your layers turn into a single Print then Cut Layer in the Layers Panel. You can also try adding an offset if you’d like, though I have found that adding offsets to photos can be a bit problematic. In the next screen, you’ll want to select and erase the background by clicking on it. The checkerboard background indicates where Print then Cut will cut the image.
But when you go to cut your image, each layer will be cut separately as you can see here in the Prepare Screen. Sometimes a Print then Cut image will have more than one layer and sometimes they will all be together in a single layer, like this Rubik’s Cube (#M2B9088C6). These black marks is what your Cricut reads to know exactly where to cut your project. Cricut Design Space will then cut a bunch of calibration lines across the top and down the right side of your paper. Without unloading the mat, take a look and see which of the lines have the cut closest to the center.
