MSM is highly effective but you have to use it with care if you are a do-it-yourselfer. I bought it to kill buttonweed which is very invasive. Second, if you are using on St. Augustine (I'm in Texas) know that this will likely turn the turf chlorotic for 4-5 weeks. If that is unacceptable to you don't use MSM!

I have sodded some zoysia and have some useful centipede grass by lake’s edge. I think the product will help with some of the weed grasses. Bought this to eliminate Bahia in my Bermuda lawn.
This product is very effective against Virginia Buttonweed , and is safe to use on Zoysia . The active ingredient of this product is the same as the herbicide formerly sold under the trade name “Manor”. In my experience, Zoysia is quite tolerant of this herbicide at the recommended rates as long as ambient temperatures are under 85F. Spot spraying during summer also doesn’t seem to harm the turf grass.

MSM will translocate if it is not rainfast and you can damage desireable vegetation like trees and bushes if you get runoff. We recommend to spray during the heat of the day when you know MSM will dry quickly and stay exactly where you spray it. The only problem I had with it is that the instructions aren't very clear. I used what I thought was correct per the instructions and it killed the grass where I tested it so I am afraid to use it other places. Does the job on dollarweed and other hard to control weeds.
The active ingredient MSM can potentially damage the root system of woody plants. It is not recommended to treat weeds with MSM Turf near ornamental plants and trees. Apply 0.25 to 0.5 oz of this product per acre for weed control. Some chlorosis or stunting of the turfgrass may occur following the application. I need to get rid of button weed and dollar weed in my yard in Louisiana. Can I mix this in a 2 gallon sprayer to broadcast over whole yard, and how much should I use per gallon.

As for the other weeds in my yard, the first application quickly killed the clover and other weeds I didn’t even notice were growing until I saw the brown, dead remains. The package says it will kill Bahia, but so far it hasn’t had much of an impact on it. It didn’t have any negative impact on my St. Augustine grass either.
Lower Baldwin County Al has a long season for grass and crops. Got this for dollarweed, but worked on oxalis and all of my other weeds as well. Apply 0.25 to 0.5 oz of MSM Turf Herbicide per acre for control of the listed weeds. Do not exceed a total of 0.5 oz per acre within a 9-month period.
I am in central Florida and temperatures have been around degrees. It's been 2 weeks and the weeds are dying nicely. Applied per directions on my St. Augustine grass to stop dollar weeds. The next two days the weeds started to brown on the edges. Now a week later, all my dollar weeds are dying. I have not seen results like this since the days of DDT!
